Women who experience an early menopause, particularly when it is surgically induced, can experience a significant change in their view of their bodies. The sudden drop in hormones with surgery may make a woman feel that her body is totally out of control. An early menopause can bring symptoms that are frustrating, annoying, confusing and distressing. It is not surprising that with early menopause women talk of not being able to trust their body and see their body in a more negative way. Some don’t feel as attractive or desirable. A young body is not supposed to behave like this and women often say ‘I am a young woman in an older woman’s body’.
Dry skin, a dry vagina and increased risks of osteoporosis are significant changes to experience in your body in your twenties and thirties. It is important that all of these aspects are acknowledged, discussed and understood in some way if they are impacting on you. I hate not being able to control these changes.
| I hate not knowing how my body is going to behave. I worry about osteoporosis down the track, what my skin will look like when I am 50, and taking HT for so many years.

For me it is the loss of fertility and feeling feminine that I hate – this is not my body.
